REVENGE PORN: New type of crime Attacking Youth! This is something you MUST KNOW about it!

Posting revenge porn images on the web is a new offense which carries up to two years of imprisonment. Several states already have criminal laws against revenge, with the legislation pending in many states.
So, what is revenge porn?
Revenge porn is a form of sexual abuse that involves the distribution of nude or sexually explicit images and videos of a person without their consent. It, is usually posted by an ex-lover or a friend in order to seek revenge after the relationship has gone sour. Revenge porn is also sometimes called cyber-rape or non-consensual pornography.
Thousands of women and men across the world have been the victims of this new form of cyber crime known as revenge porn.

Why should you be aware about it?
It’s not that you should be knowing about what’s happening, but being aware about this, is now, a necessity. Several cases of revenge porn have been reported over a period of time. Informing about this is definitely not a discouragement against intimacy. It’s a warning about being intimate with a wrong person. If you are getting filmed with your consent, make sure you know the repercussions – emotional blackmail, mental torture and defamation.
There is one thing more that not much people know. And that is, photos and videos can be leaked even after you have deleted them from your phones. Yes! Such clips can be easily recovered by using a data recovery software.
Therefore, it’s not only your friends or ex-lovers who are involved. Many of the sex clips have been leaked from mobile repair centres which are then sold to porn sites.

Here’s what you are a victim of revenge porn:
  • Remove the pictures permanently
The first priority should be getting the picture or the video removed from the public domain. Requests should be made to the website(s), which can be done directly but it’s better to engage a solicitor who is a specialist.
  • Contacting the websites
Many sites are created just for revenge porn, therefore, getting something down is not that easy. So, a claim can be brought against them and it could go to court.
  • Injunctions
If the ex-partner or the website do not remove the pictures, an injunction can be sought from the court, which will prevent the images to be published elsewhere.
  • Criminal law remedies
Revenge porn can fall under various categories including harassment and blackmail. The best way is to contact a lawyer who specialises in cybercrime.
Stay safe!
